To år bagud.
Abstract
English abstract
Two years behind. A critical analysis and discussion of the conceptualization of children’s language develop-ment in the research and development programme "Preschools of the future"
Based on the increased awareness of children’s language development in preschools in the Nordic countries, this article focuses on the language conceptualization in a comprehensive Danish research and development project ”Preschools of the future”. The article draws on a policy ethnographic perspective and illuminates and discusses key aspects of the project’s understanding of children’s language and language development, including the project’s identification of linguistic problems and necessary initiatives. It is concluded that the project’s conceptualization of language draws on a special reading-oriented scientific tradition. This tradition might limit contemporary sociocultural and interactional theoretical orientations in the field of linguistics, which could be useful for supporting children’s language development in preschools.
