Abstract

The article analyses ten children’s experiences and perceptions after long-term placements in foster care in Norway. The children’s self-concept consists of personal symbols and self-esteem. The purpose of the article is to highlight and draw attention to how children’s perception of self is affected by the staying and moving, from home to foster home and home again. The study shows three types of changes. Some children develop a stronger self-image. The second pattern of change shows children who get a less pronounced self-image. The last pattern of change shows children who do not experience any change.
