Abstract

The article examines the concept of fair play sports as an important ethical reflection and action competence of children, which the kindergarten has a responsibility to promote and develop. Fair play constitutes the ethical norms and values that sport are committed to, such as showing respect for your opponents and following the rules of the game. The article points out that fair play seems to be a common denominator for both sport and play, and therefore it can serve as an ethos, not only for sport, but also for children’s play. Since fair play implies an emphasis on ethical assessment or reflection (fairness), directly related to the exercise of play, the concept could represent a crucial quality in relation to children’s social-ethical formation. The article also discusses children’s play and fair play attitudes in light of the grown-up role and the kindergarten curriculum.
